Rottet Studio in San Jose, Austin, San Antonio
USA- Austin, TX | Oct 10 2012 | (23:11:44 - EDT)
Internationally-celebrated interior design firm, Rottet Studio, has been tapped by their Houston neighbors, Valencia Group, to bring some Texas flair to three hotel projects – the brand new Lone Star Court, opening in Austin, TX in 2013; and renovations of Hotel Valencia Santana Row in San Jose, CA (to be completed in 2013) and Hotel Valencia Riverwalk in San Antonio, TX (to be completed in 2013). These three projects are key announcements for the Valencia portfolio – one is an upscale, retro-inspired motor court concept, and the others are refreshes to two of the most popular hotels the brand has to offer.
“We were honored to be tapped by Valencia to be the design team on these exciting new projects,” said Lauren Rottet, Founder of Rottet Studio. “The Lone Star Court concept inspired me to reminisce about my Texas childhood, traveling with my family to motor courts around the state, which was a great deal of fun for me and for the team. And we are thrilled to have the opportunity to reimagine the interiors of both Santana Row and River Walk to better capture the beauty of the surrounding areas inside the hotel itself. We look forward to continued collaborations with Valencia in the future.”
Designed by Lauren Rottet and the team at Rottet Studio, Lone Star Court is the first in a chain of new upscale, retro-inspired, motor courts. Austin, TX, a city in which locals and visitors are always on the lookout for what is new and different, was selected as the first location for this retro-inspired, authentic Americana new hotel concept. Boasting 123 guest rooms featuring a combination of retro décor and high-tech amenities, Lone Star Court was created as a homage to the heritage of motor courts found throughout Texas in the 1940s and 1950s.
Doyle Graham, Jr., President and CEO for Valencia Group, is passionate about the vision for Lone Star Court. “Our new court concept hotels are the most exciting idea in the hotel industry, taking a giant step forward with inspiration from the experience of travelers going back to the 1940s and ‘50s. Family trips in those days revolved around staying in different roadside motor courts. Visitors would really embrace the local culture and flavor in architecture, décor, and menu items in the coffee shop. Each one these hotels offered a unique experience, different from the last place you stayed and different from your hometown.
Creating those kinds of experiences is what Lone Star Court will be about.” The architecture and building materials are distinctly Texas Hill Country where the public space buildings will recall a ranch house and the space for the restaurant and bar will be reminiscent of a barn, looking like it has been there for a long time and part of ranchland. The guestroom buildings will be more modern, with big sweeping Texas porches. True to Austin, Lone Star Court will feature live music by an outdoor fire pit and a dipping pool reminiscent of Hill Country swimming holes.
Lone Star Court will draw business as well as leisure travelers to its unique “ranch-tech” property, and it is anticipated that both the restaurant/bar will be a destination for Austinites as well as visitors. A food trailer court will also be featured on the hotel property’s acreage. The property will have approximately 2,000 square feet of interior meeting space, an outdoor covered pavilion of 1,600 square feet, and an adjacent open air lawn that adds 1,800 square feet to the total available meeting space.
Hotel Valencia Santana Row is the only hotel located on Santana Row in San Jose, CA, in close proximity to the city’s best entertainment, fine dining and shopping. One of the top luxury hotel choices in Silicon Valley, Hotel Valencia has 212 rooms and suites featuring plantation shutters and custom-designed beds; 4,000 square feet of meeting space; an open-air courtyard, Citrus, globally influenced California cuisine; Vbar, an intimate lounge; and Cielo, a relaxed rooftop wine terrace & bar with spectacular views of the Santa Cruz Mountains and Santana Row’s Mediterranean-inspired architecture.
Rottet has sampled both traditional and modern Spanish styles and folkways to create a warm and relaxed atmosphere. Genuine wood finishes, terracotta tiles, and traditional patterned plaster connect patrons to a textured Iberian palette, while sleek steel members and wall claddings provide contrast in the modern Spanish aesthetic. Wrought iron wall fixtures, a new fountain and bench seating, in the three-story tall Entrance Dome, provide a grand introduction to the hotel.
On the Third Floor Reception, traditional steel-framed windows and doors cut into the existing lobby wall opens the space to the interior courtyard, featuring a vine-covered trellis for wine from the newly added lobby wine bar, tapas from Citrus, or cocktails from Vbar. New finishes and subtle lighting extend the bright and open feeling from the lobby all the way through to the Guest Suites, all showcasing new furniture, finishes and lighting concepts. The culmination of Rottet Studios’ efforts is the revamped Cielo wine bar/conservatory that will provide year round service by way of a glass enclosed bar and multiple fire pits.
Located on San Antonio’s picturesque River Walk, Hotel Valencia Riverwalk is a favorite wedding destination in the city and an ideal starting off point for exploration of some of the best dining and shopping in the city, as well as San Antonio’s rapidly expanding art and design community. The hotel has 213 rooms and suites and 7,000 feet of meeting and event space, as well as a hip and sophisticated bar, Vbar and nationally recognized restaurant, Citrus, home to Executive Chef Jeffery Balfour. The Rottet team will work with a palette referencing both colonial Spanish architecture and unique Texas flair.
