Britain Creates 2012: Fashion + Art Collusion opened at the Victoria and Albert Museum, with a reception to celebrate the arrival of the works, including speeches from Damien Whitmore (Director of Programming at V&A) and Ruth Mackenzie (Director of the Cultural Olympiad). The exhibition is open until Sunday July 29, 2012, as part of the London 2012 Festival. Entry is free.
"The artists and designers in the project, literate in one anothers’ worlds, set out from a point of mutual respect, an appreciation of the other’s different talents and craft, and an excitement about exploring the other’s territory. The Victoria and Albert Museum is the perfect context for such a project, celebrating as it does excellence in both art and craft, and makers of all kinds."
- Susanna Greeves, Curator of Britain Creates
More About Britain Creates
Britain Creates 2012 is an artistic project which forms part of the Fashion 2012 platform to celebrate the year of London’s hosting of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The BFC/Bazaar Fashion Arts Foundation has been working with the Mayor of London, LOCOG and a panel of influential individuals across fashion and the arts to deliver this unique cultural programme and Gala event, which is one of the highlight events, as a part of the London 2012 Festival, a spectacular 12-week nationwide celebration from 21st June and running until 9th September 2012, bringing together leading artists from across the world with the very best from the UK. The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games are a celebration of excellence and performance and these partnerships have been commissioned to create pieces of work to reflect these special values.
'Britain Creates 2012: Fashion & Art Collusion', is part of this artistic project, providing a unique opportunity to celebrate and strengthen the longstanding relationships between fashion designers and visual artists. Find about more about the Collaborations.
The Britain Creates 2012 project will be the start of an ongoing artistic project and bursary to support and encourage further collaboration between fashion and other art forms. The auction of the pieces and proceeds of the Gala event both raised funds for the bursary.
