Arclight Films and Pure Dopamine are pleased to announce the Cannes world premiere of gritty crime-thriller, DOG EAT DOG, based on the award-winning book of the same name by celebrated author Eddie Bunker on May 20, 2016. The film stars Nicolas Cage, Willem Dafoe (SPIDERMAN trilogy, THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL) and was directed by two-time Golden Globe and Palme d’Or nominee and WGA Laurel Award-winner Paul Schrader (RAGING BULL, TAXI DRIVER, AFFLICTED). DOG EAT DOG is the official closing film of this year’s Directors’ Fortnight (Quinzaine des Realisateurs). Writers are Matt Wilder and Paul Schrader.
“It’s been an honor to work with such exceptional talent both in front of and behind the camera.” Said producer Mark Earl Burman. “We’re excited to have been invited to screen DOG EAT DOG to audiences for the very first time in Cannes and look forward to sharing the film with the rest of the world shortly thereafter.”
“We’re thrilled that DOG EAT DOG has been selected as the closing night film for Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes.” Said Gary Hamilton, Managing Director of Arclight Films and a producer on the project. “We can’t imagine a better or more prestigious platform for the world premiere of such an exhilarating, exceptional and powerful film, featuring a world-renowned cast lead by Nicolas Cage and Willem Dafoe, and directed by a legend in his own right, Paul Schraeder.”
DOG EAT DOG is a gritty contemporary crime thriller about a trio of ex-cons, deep in the underbelly of Cleveland, who are hired for a kidnapping. When the botched abduction goes awry and gets completely out of control, the cons find themselves on the run, vowing to stay out of prison at all costs.
“To be back in Cannes, and with DOG EAT DOG, is somewhat of a dream come true.” Said Schrader. “Nick Cage and I have been planning a collaboration for quite some time, yet we were waiting for the right script to come through, which turned out to be DOG EAT DOG. It was beyond a pleasure to work with both he and Willem and so many talented others on a film that has commercially viability as well as artistic integrity all in one, gritty, cinematic package. DOG EAT DOG brings an certain kind of edginess back into the world of film that has been missing in action for quite some time.”
Producers are Mark Earl Burman of Pure Dopamine, Gary Hamilton, and Brian Beckmann. Executive producers include Academy-award winner Barney Burman, Jeff Caperton, David Hillary, Ray Mansfield, Michael McClung, Timothy Wayne Peternel, Donald Rivers, Shaun Redick and Jeremy Rosen.
