Innovative Artist Mara Held
USA- New York, NY | Jan 9 2013 | (23:27:18 - EDT)
Artist Mara Held's paintings are an investigation into the timbre of the physical world. Painted in egg tempera over a reinforced linen panel, raised layers of paint resembling topographical maps with pulsating forms create a conflation of drawing and painting. Her paintings are thought-provoking and onlookers can find themselves drawn into the beautiful patterns and dimensional works.
Held has been in numerous exhibitions internationally and in New York, including the Islip Art Museum Long Island, The Painting Center, New York, Sideshow Gallery, Brooklyn, Christiane Nienaber, New York, Artefact/Galleria Pardo, Italy.
Her work is included in the public collections of the MTA Arts for Transit, The International Artists Museum in Tel Aviv, Bayerisch Landesbank in New York and the Landesbank Schleswig-Holstein Girozentrale in New York. Held's work has also been mentioned in The New York Times.
Mara Held will be featured at the Gary Snyder Gallery from Jan. 24 - March 2, 2013. Co-founded by Gary Snyder and Garth Greenan in Sept. 2011, Gary Snyder Gallery focuses on mid-twentieth-century American art, with a particular emphasis on artists who emerged during the 1960s. Snyder opened his first gallery in New York City in 1991. Gary Snyder Gallery is an evolution of Gary Snyder Project Space, located at 250 West 26th Street.
