30 Creative Days in London

30+ extraordinary new works of art

Rio’s artists have been making, creating and occupying London for a month as part of the London 2012 Festival. For three extraordinary days at the beginning of August they’ll come together to present and perform in London’s most exciting new gallery/club/performance venue: V22 at the Biscuit Factory in Bermondsey for the FREE Rio Occupation London Festival Finale.

What’s more, attendees will have the chance to win two places on the return leg of the occupation, joining 30 British artists as they head across to Rio in 2013.

A Brazilian artistic bonanza from Rio’s new generation of artists, the Festival Finale offers a unique chance to experience over thirty original art works. Each day begins at 15.00 with opportunities to view, interact, appreciate, experience and digest a dazzling array of video installations, live performance, cinema, theatre, dance, music, etc. There will always be food and drink and every night finishes with a party led by live musicians and DJs. 30 hours over three days, this is art that surprises, challenges, provokes and amuses - from guerrilla banana street art to an Endless Poem, from live cinema to suspended bodies, from a 7m Queen Victoria to a Brazilian Musical Kitchen.

Artists featured include legendary Brazilian visual artist Laura Lima, DJ João Brasil and Brazilian Kitchen - a band of artists and chefs who cook while they jam, created especially for the occupation and made up of occupation artists.

These amazing works have been created by Rio’s boldest artistic voices, who have created a dazzling array of new work during a month of Occupations at The Albany Theatre, B3 Media, Bush Theatre, Battersea Arts Centre, Brick Box, Hightide Festival, RichMix, River of Music Festival, Roundhouse, Shortwave Cinema, Somerset House, Southbank Centre, Victoria and Albert Museum and on the Olympic Park.

All of the artists will be present throughout the festival to meet audiences and talk with them about their work.

Tickets are completely free but to guarantee entry attendees should book in advance via Battersea Arts Centre: http://www.bac.org.uk/whats-on/rio-occupation-festival-finale/. Please note that the festival is not held at BAC but at V22 Summer Club at The Biscuit Factory.

Rio Occupation London is presented by Rio State Secretariat of Culture and executive produced by People’s Palace Projects in collaboration with Battersea Arts Centre and is co-funded by Petrobras.  A return invasion is planned for April 2013, when Rio de Janeiro is inviting London artists to invade their city as they start their journey to the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2016. Rio Occupation London is part of the London 2012 Festival, the spectacular 12-week nationwide celebration running from 21 June until 9 September 2012 bringing together leading artists from across the world with the very best from the UK.
