Dutch Design Week 2012 with Joost van Bleiswijk
The Netherlands- Eindhoven | Oct 12 2012 | (23:12:56 - EDT)
Joost van Bleiswijk was appointed as one of the three ambassadors of the Dutch Design Week 2012 (Oct. 20-28, 2012). Joost has a great affection for the Dutch Design Week, and since the very first edition he always took part in it. Starting in 2001 with his graduation project at the Graduation Show of the Design Academy Eindhoven, and now 11 years later, as Ambassador of the event.
Joost will host the Embassy of Design in his studio, which he shares with his life-partner and fellow designer Kiki van Eijk. The Embassy of Design will be a safe house for autonomous design, where Joost will show his new collections in the environment in which they were created.
Further down this press release, you can read more about the new collections of Joost that will be shown at The Embassy of Design, and you will find an overview of other not to miss design events that Joost takes part in during this year’s Dutch Design Week (DDW).
New: Scratch Collection from Joost van Bleiswijk
In 2010, Joost scratched away typical ‘Delft Blue glazed drawing’ in the development of his Poor Man’s Gold project for the Zuiderzeemuseum. This process resulted in the outcome of a new pattern, which he entitled Scratch, and which was used first on ceramic plates for the museum commission.
Now Joost further developed the scratching idea and during the DDW he shows two collections with the Scratch pattern. One is a collection of high quality table linen woven by the Dutch Textile Museum. The other is an auto produced collection of archetypical furniture on which the pattern is applied through a process in which the lacquer of the furniture is scratched away.
Heavy Metal Mk2
A brand new addition to the heavy metal collection. Joost designed a range of tables, shelves and lights as the latest additions to his handcrafted Heavy Metal series.
The new restaurant ‘Radio Royaal’ at Strijp-S in Eindhoven asked Joost to design two tables for them. These giant, custom made tables, a reading table and a chef’s table will be shown first during the DDW at Radio Royaal, Ketelhuisplein 10, 5617 AE Eindhoven.
New: Collage Collection
Insomnia is a load that many creative minds have to bear, and Joost is one of them. During his many sleepless nights, Joost found himself scribbling small drawings many hours. These intuitive scribbles formed his bases of inspiration for the Collage collection.
In this very personal and intuitive collection, Joost creates pieces from various materials, like ready-mades, machine parts, and hand crafted pieces, which he puts together as collages. These collages are lacquered in one color and hand decorated by Joost, during his long, long nights. Each piece becomes a personal document of time, and tells the story of 'how a creative mind turned the tables on his burden.'
