Roskilde Festival 2012 and Build What Here
Roskilde Festival and The Danish Architecture Centre have joined forces this year to produce the creative competition "Build What Here," which is dedicated to developing innovative temporary architecture. The task is to plan and design a creative urban debate installation at this year’s Roskilde music festival. To learn more check out the contest here.
About the Festival
Roskilde Festival is the largest North European culture and music festival and has existed since 1971. They are a non-profit organisation consisting of about 25 full-time employees and thousands of volunteers. Each year, The Roskilde Festival Charity Society, which is the association behind Roskilde Festival, ensures that the profits from the festival are donated directly to humanitarian and cultural purposes. This year the festival takes place July 5-8, 2012.
During the festival itself the number of volunteers increases to about 25,000. These volunteers staff the festival stalls, build stages, provide camping security etc. Most volunteers are from cultural organisations and sports associations in the area. These clubs and societies run most of the stalls at the Festival Site, and with their great variety in goods and atmosphere the stalls contribute to the unique, intimate and exciting ambience at Roskilde Festival.
At Roskilde Festival overall management and top level coordination is handled by four people (Henrik Rasmussen, Henrik Bondo Nielsen, Esben Danielsen, Rikke Øxner). Roskilde Festival is by far the largest and most demanding of the events that The Roskilde Festival Charity Society is involved in. Henrik Rasmussen handles the coordination, structuring and budget planning for the many events, small and large, that The Roskilde Festival Charity Society is involved in.
About Innosite (Contest Promoter)
The aim of Innosite is to create and further develop an active innovation environment within the construction industry in Denmark and to promote dialogue across professions and industries. The platform is open for players within and outside the construction industry, allowing property developers and companies to invite tenders for development assignments, share ideas and provide inspiration for new innovation methods.
Companies wishing to set up a competition should contact Danish Architecture Centre. We shall then assess the content of the problem and decide whether it should be posted on the platform. The users of Innosite can subsequently submit their proposals and ideas.
In order to participate in the competitions, you need to register as a user. Once you have done this, you can put forward your proposal for a solution to the problem in question and comment on the ideas of other users. The company setting up the competition awards a prize to the best proposal.
Innosite builds on the idea of open innovation which means that companies involve external players and knowledge in their development processes. In this way ideas, problems and solutions are taken beyond their usual subject and organisation-specific contexts. Open innovation platforms facilitate the involvement of users and experts in the development processes. This is because sharing, collecting and selecting ideas and solutions can be done both cheaper and faster than in traditional development and, moreover, independently of the individual project.
