De Beers’ Class Apart Exquisite Jewelry Collection

Innovation award

UK- London | Jul 12 2012 | (23:01:15 - EDT)

De Beers Diamond Jewellers took a leaf out of Ovid’s “Metamorphoses” for its latest high jewelry collection, Imaginary Nature. The eight jewels are inspired by the rhythms and constant change in the natural world, with a focus on pear-shaped stones and baguettes “to create a language of movement and fluidity,” said the designer Hollie Bonneville-Barden.

“Each piece reveals a unique gesture inspired by the essence of nature. With the diamond as our muse, the collection is centered on diamonds of character,” she added. The collection features a brooch with a 16.38-carat pear-shaped diamond that resembles a leaf twisting in the wind, diamond earrings that curve gently like feathers or waves and a winged ring — set with a 4.11-carat diamond — that looks as if it’s about to take flight.

“We wanted to truly establish our legitimacy as a jeweler and to express our vision through a strong creative and contemporary gesture,” said François Delage, chief executive officer of De Beers Diamond Jewellers. “The eight one-of-a-kind creations [showcase] our diamond mastery and jewelry know-how.” Prices range from 269,500 euros, or $331,485, for a pair of earrings with 5 carats of diamonds to 4,485,000 euros, or $5,516,550, for the brooch with the 16.38-carat diamond. All figures have been calculated at current exchange rates.

Bonneville-Barden designed the collection together with the brand’s creative director Raphaele Canot, who has recently left the company. It was Canot’s final De Beers collection, and she will not be replaced.
