Ukrainian Fashion Attracts International Attention

Ukraine- Kyiv | Oct 20 2012 | (22:47:51 - EDT)

Kyiv just finished hosting this season's Ukrainian Fashion Week, which has been highly regarded by the international critics and buyers in attendance. "Ukrainian designers are talented to such extent that they have become part of international fashion already", commented Andrea Deanesi, blogger for Vogue Italy . David Hadida and Claire Khoriaty of designer platform TRANOI expressed desire to work with a string of Ukrainian designers whom they consider to have "tremendous potential".

In their comment to the official website of the Ukrainian fashion Week.  Hadida and Khoriaty stated they wanted to work with Ukrainian brands Poustovit, Elena Burenina and Anisimov. They also hoped to see local designers featured in the international fashion weeks. Andrea Deanesi, on his part, appreciated the creativity and inventiveness of Ukrainian designers.

Another guest of the UFW - Agathe Schmitt of Who's NEXT - reckons that Ukrainian designers are set to become "a new wave of fashion industry". She says: "Ukrainian designers have potential and we will hope that they will become more famous because they are really talented".

American fashion blogger and stylist Natalie Joos was impressed by Liliya Litkovskaya show. "It was very professional. This girl is really talented", she said. Joos named minimalistic, non-sexual styles by the Ukrainian designer "stunning". Natalie suggested that one day Ukrainian fashion will become a trend in itself.

Fashion blogger from the UK Sara Brajovic picked her favorite at the 31st UFW - kamenskakononova. "They are really great, so modern, so cutting-edge, so I was really looking forward to see their SS 2013 collection and surely was not disappointed", shared Brajovic. The blogger highlighted Liliya Poustovit's fresh take on prints and noted general lack of fear to experiment among Ukrainian designers.

This year's UFW attracted buyers and journalists from France, Italy, Russia, Sweden, and the UK - a total of over 20,000 guests that confirmed the motto for the 31st UFW: "Fashion is apolitical but never asocial". The highlights of the 2012 UFW included a contest of fashion illustrators, traditional pro-ecological party Eco Chic Party, and New Spirit special project - presenting the best of the newcomers to the Ukrainian fashion scene.
