Zana Bayne Fall/Winter 2012 Presentation

For her Fall/Winter 2012 collection, Zana Bayne debuted her leather body-harnesses and accessories as an exhibition at the CATM Gallery in New York. These new bondage-inspired pieces were presented through collaborative works in photo, video, and installation – taking the accessories out of their customary place in fashion editorial. The harnesses, absorbing the sensual connotations that leather evokes, act as more than a garment; they become charged objects. They transcend function to imply something more intimate about the wearer exuding a subtle eroticism with inherent notions of power and submission.

Zana Bayne launched her first hand-crafted leather harness collection in 2010, after receiving several inquiries from stylists, celebrities and fans from all over the world who spotted the unique detailed pieces she made for herself and friends, on her blog Garbagedress.com. After graduating from the San Francisco Art Institute with a BFA in Conceptual Art, Bayne quickly move to Berlin to work for LURVE Magazine. Then in 2009 she relocated to New York City where she began the harness accessory business. The namesake brand of the Brooklyn-based designer presents meticulously handcrafted leather accessories that play on the lines of the body. Subtle bondage undertones and defined silhouettes evoke a sense of refinement, accentuating the style of the individual wearer.

She released her first official collection in December 2010 and has since had her work featured in Vogue Italia, Vogue Japan, i-D, Interview, and in Karl Lagerfeld’s book of portraits “The Little Black Jacket”. Her pieces have also been worn by Platinum recording artists Madonna, Lady Gaga and Ciara. For the past three seasons, she has collaborated with CFDA winner Prabal Gurung to provide accessories for his runway shows. In December 2011 at the age of 23, Bayne was included on the Forbes list of 30-Under-30 in Art & Design.

COLLABORATORS

Char Alfonzo is a New York-based Multimedia Artist that has explored his creativity through the mediums of print design, fabric print design, filmmaking and fashion photography. Born and raised in Venezuela, Char Alfonzo has been immersed in European and Latinamerican culture from an early age, drawing inspiration from his experiences with the sacred, shamanism, anthropology, and ritual practice.

Maxime Büchi is the founder and creative director of Sang Bleu Magazine, Swiss Typefaces, Novembre Magazine. Works and lives in London as a tattoo artist, publisher and art director.

Adrian Wilson is a British photographer who has worked from London for the past 20 years. His work is varied in subject matter, encompassing fashion, portraiture, street and beach photography, consistent through recurring themes of voyeurism, narcissism and a sense of dignity in human vulnerability.
