Wolfe Releasing Acquires Rights to Comedy Gayby

USA- San Jose, CA | May 30 2012 | (01:07:39 - EDT)

Wolfe Releasing has acquired the U.S. rights to the critically acclaimed comedy Gayby at the SXSW Film Conference & Festival, in a deal valued in the low six figures. Written and directed by Jonathan Lisecki, Gayby is the provocative, hilarious, and warm-hearted story of a gay man and a straight woman who decide to have a child together. The film, based on an award-winning short film that has screened at over a hundred festivals on six continents, will be released theatrically later this year, in partnership with The Film Collaborative, and will debut on DVD/VOD in 2013.

"Gayby is the funniest movie I've seen in years," said Wolfe President Maria Lynn. "It's a pleasure to be able to work with such a talented filmmaker as Jonathan Lisecki and help him reach the widespread audience he deserves."

Jonathan Lisecki added, "Wolfe's reputation with filmmakers is stellar, and their commitment to our movie was unmatched. From sharing our pre-production Kickstarter campaign with their mailing list to flying in for our SXSW premiere, they showed passionate and unflagging interest, and I'm thrilled to embark with them on the next step of Gayby's journey."

Synopsis: Jenn (Jenn Harris) and Matt (Matthew Wilkas) are best friends from college who are now in their thirties. Single by choice, Jenn spends her days teaching hot yoga and running errands for her boss. Matt suffers from comic-book writer's block and can't get over his ex-boyfriend. They decide to fulfill a youthful promise to have a child together ... the old-fashioned way. Can they navigate the serious and unexpected snags they hit as they attempt to get their careers and dating lives back on track in preparation for parenthood?

Gayby was produced by Amy Hobby and Anne Hubbell and executive produced by Zeke Farrow and Laura Heberton. Orly Ravid of The Film Collaborative brokered the deal.

Serving audiences since 1985, Wolfe is the largest exclusive distributor of gay and lesbian films. Current major Wolfe releases include the acclaimed Sundance Audience Award WinnerUndertow (Peru's submission for the 2010 Academy Awards), the hard-hitting Don't Ask, Don't Tell, and the drama A Marine Story. Wolfe is also well known for releasing classics like Desert Hearts, Big Eden and Were The World Mine.
