Tickets Now Available for Bachfest Leipzig 2013

Germany- Leipzig | Oct 16 2012 | (22:56:34 - EDT)

Next year's Bachfest Leipzig will be held from June 14-23, 2013 under the motto "Vita Christi". Pre-sale for Leipzig's biggest annual music festival began Oct. 15, 2012.

Johann Sebastian Bach's Christmas Oratorio, "The St. John Passion", and the Easter and Ascension Oratorios form together a grand oratorio project which must have been a highlight in the musical life of Leipzig, Saxony, in 1734/1735.

On a total of three concert evenings, these scenes from the Vita Christi will be presented in Bach's unique musical realization. The oratorios will be conducted by Trevor Pinnock and Sir John Eliot Gardiner.

For the first time, the theological, dramaturgical and compositional lay lines between Bach's great oratorical works are drawn within the program of a festival. All the musical services are dedicated to the motto "Vita Chisti": every day, cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach will be performed that illustrate the life of Christ.

Beside Sir John Eliot Gardiner and Trevor Pinnock, the Bachfest 2013 will present the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, Andreas Staier, the Helsinki Baroque Orchestra, Hermann Max, and many more. The Gewandhaus Orchestra and the St. Thomas Boys Choir take part, too, as usual.

With 75,000 visitors and more than 100 events every year, the Bachfest counts among the most important international classical music festivals. Renowned artists from all over the world can be heard performing at authentic sites related to Bach in and aroundLeipzig. Bach lived here for 27 years between 1723 and 1750. He headed St. Thomas Boys Choir, which is celebrating its 800th anniversary in 2012.

Tickets are available at the Bach Fest Leipzig Website or  Leipzig Travel.
