Music Festival Alert: Power Pop Genre Lives On!

USA- Port Jefferson, NY | Sep 17 2012 | (22:55:33 - EDT)

Music blog powerpopaholic.com will be hosting its First Annual Power Pop Music Festival at Lulu's Village Pub on 1509 Main Street in Port Jefferson, N.Y. on Sept. 22, 2012. Musical artists playing are: The Heartless Devils, Jana Peri (seen recently at CBGB Festival), Buddy Love, The Turnback (featured in the film Drawing with Chalk), Jeff Litman (seen recently at The Mercury Lounge, NYC), Lane Steinberg (The Wind, Wall Of Orchids, 8x8) and Lannie Flowers (played at The Cavern Club in Liverpool).

The Heartless Devils are described as an aggressive and catchy Power Pop, Hard Rock, and Punk mix with a great vibe in which to jam. Think the Ramones meet Cheap Trick with some Social D and Plimsouls thrown into the mix for good measure.

Jana Peri is a NYC singer/songwriter/guitarist with her own punk-influenced, power pop/rock band. She was a winner of ROCKRGRL’s Discoveries 2004 contest with the song “Dating Sucks,” from her self-titled EP. Other critically acclaimed releases include "Catching Flies With Vinegar," produced by Daniel Rey (Ramones, Ronnie Spector). Jana has had three successful U.K. tours and joined legendary Liverpool band The Quarrymen onstage there in 2010. She also performs with NYC tribute band Loser’s Lounge.

Buddy Love is a power pop sensation renowned for climbing the charts with a hit single, “Sheila” in 1980. Buddy Love followed up their first musical success with a smash hit-filled CD entitled, “Now and Then.” This collection of power pop received rave reviews and airplay around the globe. Buddy Love is now promoting their latest self-titled album. The hit single, “CryingTown” (co-written and co-produced by Tommy Byrnes) is receiving airplay in NYC and Buddy Love has been performing sold out shows in New York City venues.

New York’s The Turnback blends elements of 60's and 70's power pop and rock together with a modern sound to create songs that are at once familiar yet distinctly original and timeless; a sound that fits comfortably into any era – yet never becomes dated, tired or trendy.

The Turnback’s complex, yet warm vocal harmonies add an aspect to their songs that is sorely missing from much of today’s music. Their 2011 debut CD "Drawn In Chalk”, which also served as the soundtrack for the award-winning indie film “Drawing With Chalk”, made multiple year end “best of” lists (Powerpopaholic, David Bash’s IPO, Pop Geek Heaven, Pop Fair and Sweden’s Ice Cream Man Power Pop blog amongst others).

So why Power Pop? Power Pop a musical genre that still is going strong both on its own terms and as an influence on a wide variety of artists. It is one of the few genres that appeal to the 30-50 year old demographic, which is generally neglected in radio and music marketing circles. After all, who doesn't like power chord-laden, sing-along music that was probably the soundtrack to your first kiss or the first day of your last high school summer? While you can take the pop off the radio, it cannot be removed from one’s personal connections and experiences because it is timeless. Power Pop will forever live on!

Organized by Aaron Kupferberg of Powerpopaholic.com and Scott Bittner of the Heartless Devils, this will be a music festival similar to the International Pop Overthrow's  (IPO) in which the focus is on bands in the melodic rock or power pop genres and the purpose is to give every worthy band desiring to play their music in a festival atmosphere the chance to do so, while also bringing pop music the attention it greatly deserves.

Tickets are pay-one-price ($10) to see all 7 bands. The music starts at 8:00 p.m. Lulu's is conveniently located near the corner of Main Street and N. Country Rd., one block from the LIRR. Started in 2006, Powerpopaholic.com is the premier music review blog for all artists who fit within the genre of power pop or melodic rock. The site has over 2,200 reviews and over 766,000 page views by pop music fans.
