USA- New York, NY | Aug 6 2012 | (23:10:16 - EDT)
"JULIE HEDRICK: GREEN," an exhibition of 14 paintings, was displayed at the Nohra Haime Gallery on June 19 and has been extended until August 23. Hedrick’s green canvases express her heartfelt homage to the earth, as she invites the public to remember their connection with the universe and inner selves.
“This is the year of green,” Hedrick commented, alluding to the struggle felt worldwide between changing weather patterns and concentrated greed. Her paintings are visual poems, deceptively simple yet extensively experienced. She examines the earth’s spiritual planes as she channels nature’s purest essence. Hedrick’s work is focused and deeply connected.
The intriguing appearance of texture is produced with handmade oil paints where numerous layers of color coexist upon the canvas and vibrate below the surface. In Into the Forest, 2011, Hedrick creates a powerful and mysterious effect, taking the observer on a spiritual journey through a green canopy. The vaporous quality evokes the forest’s mystique and humidity, allowing memories and landscapes to interact and become one. With quiet intensity, she captures the intriguing yet harmonious connection experienced when surrounded by nature.
Hedrick’s work is highly connected to her husband, Peter Wetzler’s, piano extractions. Like in music, meditation upon her painting gathers meaning over time, thus creating rhythms in this dance of life that flow in through our eyes, providing a glance into a pure world.
The collection of extraordinary paintings transforms the gallery into a meditative space. Charged with aesthetic rhythm, political turmoil, and spiritual renewal, the paintings provoke real emotion.
Hedrick has exhibited extensively throughout the United States and Canada. She has also participated to great acclaim in performances, poetry readings, set designs and discussion panels. Born in 1958 in Toronto, Canada, Hedrick now lives in Kingston, New York. She is a Graduate of the Painting Studio Program, Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, (NSCAD). She also studied anatomy and physiology. Since 1990, Hedrick not only has been painting but also writing poetry.
