Aviad Petel is a Tel Aviv based designer who founded his studio in 2008. His passion for unique materials led him to concentrate on wood veneers and render their relatively unexplored potential into visually spectacular and technically ingenious objects. Aviad Petel keeps seeking new ways to interpret forms and qualities of wood veneer.
Pioneering with 99”, When lit, a magical warm light is filtered out between the veneer fibers. 99" lamp is given an "edgy" contemporary twist by combining Aviad Petels vision of perfectionismand aesthetics. The individuality of this pendant is created by the harmonious composition of extremes- an extraterrestrial sensation is produced by natural materials, an organic body formed by equal geometrical parts, handmade within an accurately engineered construction.
Suspended on three metal cords of adjustable length, the lamp takes its optimal place in the space and intrigues the viewer by its shape from every possible angle. 99 thin natural stripes, each 1" wide, delicately woven and individually stitched between slots of metal, eventually create the shape of the lamp. Wood veneer has a special protective coating which allows easy cleaning and guarantees longevity.
The prototype of 99" was sold at the recent design auction of the prestigious auction house Dorotheum.
