NEW YORK - DUBLIN - Photographer Ciaran Tully
Ciaran Tully moved to New York City from Dublin in 1990. Since that timeTully has come to appreciate, understand and love the soul of his adopted hometown. Versatile and creative, he has dedicated his energy to capturing the mystery and inert wonder of its skyscapes in his photography. He captures the city's shifting moods and colors and shapes, its lights and shadows and its implied psychedelia – the lights and movements themselves continually hint at something deeper and more spiritual, don't they? From a bleary, kinetic and majestic take on the Empire State Building to a simultaneously disturbing and peaceful rendition of a sunset over the Hudson River, Tully uses his camera's lens to express and challenge.
While times and circumstances of its residents may change, one thing remains constant: New York itself is dominant. To quote an old pop song, we truly do belong to the city. Tully's exciting work only magnifies our hopes for the place and how this vast network of buildings, bridges, tunnels, taxis, bodegas, jackhammers, pizza joints and subway stops paints our own experiences so completely.
